PAC Dose Testing: Build a Jar-Trial Matrix That Answers the Treatment Question
Activated Carbon buying guide · Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)
A PAC jar trial compares carbon doses under controlled mixing, contact and separation conditions. Measure the treatment target after the planned solids-removal step, using representative water.
Control the comparison
Use representative water and record the inlet condition. Keep mixing, temperature and downstream separation consistent across candidates. Include an untreated baseline and more than one candidate dose so the result shows a response rather than a single favorable observation.
Measure the treated water
Analyze the selected target after the agreed separation step. Record contact time and check whether residual carbon affects the measurement. Transfer the result to a plant trial cautiously: a jar test does not reproduce every feature of full-scale mixing and solids removal.
What to record before approval
- Include a baseline and a defined dose range.
- Use one contact and separation protocol across candidates.
- Report the outlet target, not only visual improvement.
