Activated Carbon Pellet Diameter: Specify the Gas-Bed Duty First

Activated Carbon buying guide · Pelletized Activated Carbon (EAC)

Pellet diameter affects how gas flows through a carbon bed. Compare diameter, bed geometry and allowable pressure drop alongside adsorption performance when selecting pelletized activated carbon.

Define the gas conditions

State airflow, target compounds, temperature, humidity and inlet loading. Include vessel dimensions and the allowable pressure drop. These details help establish whether a proposed pellet size is a practical candidate; the adsorption duty still needs its own performance evidence.

Review media integrity

Request the agreed diameter distribution, length information and relevant mechanical checks. Consider what handling and vibration the media will experience. A grade that meets a laboratory adsorption result may still need different loading or retention provisions in the actual system.

What to record before approval

  • Provide airflow and bed geometry with the inquiry.
  • Request size and integrity information for the offered grade.
  • Evaluate pressure behavior and target-compound performance separately.

For the matching product family, see Pelletized Activated Carbon (EAC). The Technical Library provides additional document checklists. Share the intended use and the proposed acceptance method when requesting a sample or quotation.

Compare pellet size with retention and loading requirements

Record the gas-vessel support arrangement, available bed depth and the proposed loading method. Ask for the offered pellet diameter and relevant size distribution, including broken material where reported. A diameter that fits the support system still needs to be considered alongside flow distribution, pressure behavior and the required treatment duty.

Keep a reference sample from loading and note any visible damage during handling. If pellet sizes are being compared, hold the other trial conditions as steady as practical. Avoid interpreting a difference in vessel loading or inlet conditions as proof that one diameter is universally preferable for gas purification.

Keep the pellet inquiry tied to gas duty

Include pellet diameter, bed dimensions and gas conditions in the quotation request. Check strength, handling requirements and the supplied grade identity before loading.
