Humidity and temperature can affect carbon adsorption in a VOC exhaust system. Record both with the vapor composition and concentration range when comparing pelletized grades.

Reproduce the operating stream

Identify the solvent or VOC mixture and any upstream conditioning. Record the range of humidity rather than a single favorable reading. Water vapor can compete with adsorbates, but the size of the effect depends on the stream and carbon; avoid applying a generic performance percentage.

Plan monitoring and change-out

Measure inlet and outlet concentration using an agreed method and record operating conditions at the same time. A replacement plan should reflect the observed service duty. Follow the system’s safety procedures for hot streams, reactive substances and spent-media handling rather than treating pellet selection as the complete design.

Keep humidity and VOC measurements on the same timeline

Record humidity and temperature at the carbon-bed inlet during the VOC trial rather than relying on a daily ambient reading. Note the VOC mixture and concentration changes across the relevant production cycle. Comparisons are easier to interpret when outlet measurements can be linked to the corresponding inlet period.

Include the process engineer in decisions about pretreatment, bed monitoring and spent-media handling. A short run with one solvent mixture cannot establish performance for a different exhaust stream. Use the trial to define the next operating test and the information needed for a pelletized-carbon supply specification.

Keep the pellet inquiry tied to gas duty

Provide the target gas stream, pellet-size requirement and installed bed arrangement when requesting an EAC quotation. Ask for grade identification and the relevant safety and handling information. The specification should support both media selection and practical loading, rather than using pellet appearance as the basis for approval.
